FAQ

Buster Boyd Baits

Who runs the business?

I, Pearce Phillips, singlehandedly run this business. I create and design every lure, package it, and everything in between - including creating this website! Any time not spent in school or sports is spent either planning or creating lures. All of my work is proudly done in the United States of America.

Where can I buy your work?

As of now, my work is only available by contacting me directly. The best way to do this is your preferred way: social media, phone, or using this website. You can follow @buster.boyd.baits on Instagram or Facebook, or by visiting the Contact page and sending me a message! Make sure to leave your contact information in the required fields so I can get in touch with you. Filling out the contact form or sending me a DM/PM on social media are great ways to get in touch with me. For those options, please be prepared to purchase items through either Apple Pay, Venmo, or electronic bank transfer. Stay tuned for featured sales that will be explicitly on social media. To recap, you can find my unique lures on eBay during seasonal releases, or contact me through either my website or social media to discuss a custom lure.

Why are the lures expensive?

It's easy to go to a big retail store and find cheap, plastic lures that catch fish for a few bucks. Most of these lures are made in factories overseas with low quality materials. They are prone to breaking and there is little to no craft in them. My lures are different. Over the years, I have learned the skills of a successful lure maker through art, painting, woodworking, and fishing. I put a great deal of work into each and every lure. Each one is handcrafted every step of the way. I give special attention to ensuring my designs are unique and stand out from the crowd, but also work in the water. My lures are so much more than a lure - each one is a true work of art. They truly cannot be compared to a regular fishing lure. I take a lot of pride in my lures and spend a lot of time ensuring they are the very best they can be. My prices reflect that attention to time, quality and detail.

What are your lures made of?

My lures are usually made of poplar. Poplar is a sturdy wood that will hold up to wear and tear, but soft enough to carve in details, making it the perfect wood for lure making. I use high quality split rings and hooks. The eyelet screws are handmade from stainless-steel lock wire. For certain lures that need extra weight or have a sinking action, lead is poured in. Each lure is sealed with epoxy resin to protect it from wear.

How long does a lure take to create?

Since each of my lures are individually built, they can take awhile to make. After doing research on the patterns and shapes of the fish I am replicating, I begin planning and drawing designs. Once the drawing is transferred to a wood plank, I begin the process. Hours are put in to the baits, and dry times for paint, sealer, and epoxy is factored in as well. All in all, the process may anywhere from a few days to a few weeks depending upon available work time and the scale of the project. Please consider this when requesting a custom order!

What is your shipping policy?

I ship using USPS Priority Mail to currently only U.S. residents. Most single order lures will come in a small USPS Flat Rate or Regional Rate package. I charge a ten dollar flat rate shipping and handling fee for orders under $75. Anything above that amount will qualify for Free Shipping. All lures will be generously wrapped in bubble wrap along with plenty of cushioning and plastic hook protectors. I take these measures to ensure your lures arrive in tip-top shape.
